Astara is a city located in the northernmost part of Gilan province. The city lies on the last border point between Azerbaijan Republic and Iran. Geographically, from the east the city leads to the Caspian Sea, from the north it leads to Azerbaijani Astara, from the west to Ardabil province and from the south to Talesh county. Astara is one of the important tourist cities of Iran. The city also has a decisive economic role in its country and it is the most important communication bridge between Iran and Azerbaijan Republic.

The largest flag of Iran has been raised at the boundary point of Astara. In terms of climate the city is divided into mountain and plain parts. Its plain part has hot, humid summers and mild winters, but its mountain part has mild summers and cold winters. The oldest monument of Astara is related to Ilkhanate dynasty and some monuments of Safavid and Qajar dynasties are in the city. It should be said that the monuments like graves and tombs of the city that are related to Islamic era are abandoned located in foothills and forests without date and in inappropriate physical condition.

Where to stay in Astara?

Unfortunately, there are not many hotels in Astara that we introduce the best of them to you. If you are interested in staying at a luxurious hotel, we recommend Espinas International hotel to you that is located in 5km from the entrance of the city. If you prefer to stay at less expensive hotel, Jahangardi hotel in Hakim Nezami street and Abolfazl hotel in Farhangiyan street can be good choices for you. You can also rent coastal houses for staying in Astara.

What to eat? Where to eat?

You should not be worry about the food in Astara, because there are a lot of good restaurants in the city such as: Golhaye Heyran, Roohi, Afra, Roomi and Shelar.

People of Astara are interested in spending time in cafes and there are many good cafes in the city such as: Barf, Omid, Adn Nutella, and Esi Darya. 

What do we buy from Astara?

Since Astara is a border and coastal city, you can find everything there. Astara Beach Bazaar, Ahoora market, and Seyyedan mall are good places for shopping in Astara.

Health and Care 

There are good, equipped health centers and hospitals in Astara for example: Astara and Shahid Beheshti hospitals. Dr. Kalantarian and Dr. Sadeghi Hariri are the pharmacies of the city.

Where to go and visit in Astara?

Astara is a verdurous city with nice weather. The green forests of the city and their wonderful landscapes make you feel great. The city also has attractive places to visit such as: Heyran mountain pass which is the most beautiful mountain pass in Iran, Laton waterfall that is the most beautiful and highest waterfall of Gilan province, Estil lagoon, Heaven of Cactuses that is a place where 2200 kinds of Cactus from different countries are there, Abbasabad village that is the most beautiful village of Astara, and Tomb of Sheikh Tajedin Mohamad Khiyavi.
